Meet Effie Triantafilopoulos
Effie was elected as the Progressive Conservative MPP for Oakville North-Burlington in June 2018. Effie serves as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade and as a member of the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs. Previously she served as a member of the Standing Committees on Justice Policy and Social Policy, and of the Select Committee on Emergency Management Oversight. She is Senior Counsel at Vassos Law LLP and also serves on the Board of the World Hellenic Interparliamentary Association.
Advocate for Jobs and Growth – Effie has worked directly with Canadian businesses to create jobs. As past Director for the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Canada’s largest trade and industry association, Effie advocated for a more open and competitive business environment and also served as Director for the Canada – U.S. Business Association, Ontario Exports Inc., Forum for International Training, and the Empire Club of Canada.
Business and Government Leader – Effie worked as a senior advisor in three key federal government departments focused on economic growth and trade.
As Chief of Staff to Ministers at the Departments of Industry, Treasury Board, and External Affairs and International Trade she was involved with the implementation of the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement.
Her experience in international trade led to her role as Deputy Director for the Summits Management Office of Foreign Affairs and International Trade during the 2010 G20 Summit in Canada.
Serving Communities – Effie is committed to improving the health and education of children. As past Chief Executive Officer and Director of Save the Children Canada, Effie worked to improve the rights of children in Canada and around the world.
She is committed to public service and volunteerism having been active in the community and national voluntary organizations for more than 25 years.
Other notable involvement included the Toronto 2008 Olympic Bid Committee, National Arts Centre, Hellenic Heritage Foundation, Accessible Media Inc. and the International Women’s Forum.
Effie holds a Bachelor of Law and a Master of Laws in International Trade and Competition Law.
